Mockery, workplace discrimination, humiliation in renting and healthcare, even violence—is morally wrong and violates the spirit of constitutional equality. Gender identity or sexual orientation is not a crime; it is part of a person’s dignity and freedom. Yet we see “correction” pressures at home, bullying on campuses, police apathy toward complaints, and insensitivity in hospitals. This quiet violence erases an entire group of citizens.
Change is possible—if we choose it.
- Anti-discrimination policies: clear rules and penalties in jobs, education, housing, and services.
- Health and legal support: trained counselling, hormone/mental-health care, safe legal aid.
- Police/administration training: zero tolerance for refusal to register cases and failure to protect.
- Inclusive education/media: humane, evidence-based representation.
- Family-community dialogue: teach empathy, not hate.
A society’s standard is measured by the safety of its most marginalized. LGBTQ people are our fellow citizens. Ensuring their respect and protection is the test of civilization—a Bangladesh where love isn’t a crime, identity isn’t a shame, and dignity is a birth right.
