Sharifa’s Story Was My Story Too

Sharifa’s Story Was My Story Too

— And That’s Exactly Why They’re Afraid

When I read Sharifa’s Story being yanked out of textbooks in Bangladesh, I saw my own erasure play out — again. A bisexual girl born into religious conservatism, I was taught to be ashamed of who I am. Now they’re doing the same to kids who might’ve found courage in Sharifa’s journey. One man literally tore pages from a book — because what, a trans girl finding her truth threatens your masculinity? Please.

This isn’t about “protecting children.” It’s about policing identity. It’s Islamic hypocrisy wrapped in the same old fear of sexual freedom and self-acceptance.

But here’s the truth: We bisexual, queer, bold-as-hell folks aren’t going anywhere. We are the lesson. We are the resistance. Keep banning our stories — we’ll just write louder.
